This post is the second in a series of nine illustrating my trip to Japan. On the second day, March 22nd, I took the time to get my bearings and get ready for the first day of the conference.
Continue to the post for more pictures.
We started off the morning with a “traditional” Japanese breakfast, which consisted of grilled fish (it tasted like salmon), a half-boiled egg (i.e. a raw egg dipped in warm water then cooled), nattÅ (fermented soybeans), seaweed, rice, miso soup, and various pickled veggies.
After breakfast we headed over to the conference to see presentations on Psychophysics, Device Design, and Control and Dynamics.
Later that evening we met up with Bert Unger and ate at a grill. After attempting to translate the menu with the help of a very enthusiastic waiter who tried to illustrate where each cut of meat came from, we ultimately ordered various parts of a pig (including liver and some mixed sausage) and some shrimp. Delicious.
